In the world of cosmetics, solid shampoos are becoming increasingly popular as a sustainable and effective alternative to traditional liquid shampoos.
The solid shampoos...
These compact little wonders promise not only to reduce plastic waste, but also to care for our hair with natural and beneficial ingredients. At Skáli, we have been convinced of the benefits of solid shampoos since the beginning of our adventure. But before we continue, what exactly is a solid shampoo?
Solid shampoo is an innovative and ecological alternative to traditional liquid shampoo. It comes in the form of a small, compact block, but make no mistake: despite its small size, it is much more effective than its liquid counterpart.
While liquid shampoos are 90% water, a solid shampoo is a concentrate of active ingredients. This means that it contains no water and that all its components have a specific function for the care of your hair.
There are two main types of solid shampoos: soap-based solid shampoos and surfactant-based solid shampoos. It is important to note that not all solid shampoos are created equal. Soap-type shampoos, although natural, are a disaster for the hair. Indeed, they have a high pH that can disturb the balance of the scalp and make the hair dry and brittle. But I will come back soon with more info on this subject, in a future article.
Surfactant-based solid shampoos, on the other hand, are much gentler on the hair. Surfactants, or builders, are compounds that gently clean hair while respecting the scalp. They are responsible for the lather you get when you rub the solid shampoo into your hair.
A solid shampoo is generally composed of surfactants, emollients (which moisturize and soften the hair), conditioning agents (which detangle and add shine), essential oils and active botanicals. Each of these components has a specific role to play in ensuring that your hair is cleansed, moisturized and nourished.
At Khatone Skáli, we offer a diverse range of 5 solid shampoos, designed with specific active ingredients to meet the unique needs of each hair type. With so many options to choose from, it can be difficult to make the right choice. That's why we've broken down each product to help you understand their specifics.
The first one we present is the solid shampoo with hibiscus flower. It is specially designed to strengthen the hair fiber and offer an incomparable shine to your hair. We have chosen hibiscus powder, an active ingredient known to stimulate hair growth and strengthen hair, thanks to its richness in antioxidants and fruit acids. It also contains white clay, known for its purifying and gentle properties for the scalp. This shampoo is also ideal for hair that is tired and damaged by dyes. We do not recommend using it on white hair, as the hibiscus powder may have a slight dyeing effect. It is also the only shampoo in our range that does not contain essential oil, perfect for children.
If you have oily hair, the solid shampoo with Wild Nettle powder, Thyme essential oil and Tea Tree essential oil is for you. Wild nettle regulates sebum secretion and repairs split ends in colored hair. Thyme essential oil purifies the scalp and helps to space out washing. Tea tree essential oil cleanses the roots and allows hair to re-grease less quickly.
For normal hair, choose the solid shampoo with white clay, orange powder, sweet orange essential oil and hô wood essential oil. The orange powder brings shine, softness and suppleness to your hair while giving it a pleasant scent. The sweet orange essential oil balances the production of sebum, and the essential oil of hô wood releases a refreshing perfume which stimulates the senses. This is THE basic shampoo we offer.
For dry hair, we propose the solid shampoo with Marshmallow powder, Damask rose powder, Shea butter and Geranium Rosa essential oil. Marshmallow powder is a real treasure for dry hair: it moisturizes, revitalizes and beautifies. Damask rose powder revitalizes and tones the hair. Geranium Rosa essential oil regulates the sebum of oily hair, while Shea butter intensely nourishes the scalp. All these ingredients make this shampoo the ideal ally for people with dry hair.
Finally, we have the solid shampoo against itching and dandruff. It contains Shikakai, a traditional Indian cleansing powder that makes hair soft, prevents dandruff and promotes hair growth. Combined with white clay, it provides a gentle cleansing of the scalp. Ylang-ylang essential oil disinfects and adds a touch of shine to your hair.
Solid shampoos are not only good for your hair, they also have many benefits for the environment and your wallet.
One of the biggest advantages of solid shampoos is their low environmental impact. This is because they are often packaged in recyclable or biodegradable materials, unlike liquid shampoo bottles which are usually made of plastic. Also, because they are concentrated, they last longer, which means less packaging in the long run.
Another notable environmental benefit is the reduction of the carbon footprint associated with transportation. Because they are lighter and less bulky than their liquid counterparts, solid shampoos require less energy to transport.
Solid shampoos are usually formulated with natural ingredients and without harsh sulfates, making them gentler on hair and scalp. This should be your top priority when choosing your solid shampoo, as some brands use skin-irritating surfactants. Also, the fact that they are waterless means they don't require chemical preservatives to extend their shelf life. This reduces the risk of irritation and allergic reactions.
Plus, since each solid shampoo is designed with a specific blend of ingredients, you can choose the one that best suits your hair type and specific needs.
Finally, solid shampoos are an economical option. Because they are so concentrated, a small block can last as long as two to three bottles of liquid shampoo.
In addition to being economical, solid shampoos are also very practical for travel. They're compact, lightweight and won't leak in your luggage. Plus, because they're sturdy, you can carry them in your carry-on bag on flights.
For us, solid shampoos are an ideal daily solution to keep your hair healthy. It's also a great way to save money, because buying a liquid shampoo is mostly buying water, with a little bit of washing chemical and a lot of preservative. The very nature of solid shampoo is to be exclusively composed of ingredients that are useful for your hair, and that's what makes all the difference.
Our solid shampoos have convinced more than 1050 customers on our online store! And I must say that we are proud of our formulations!
