Our values in our craft
Cosmetics with carefully selected ingredients
In the beginning :
Since the creation of the Khatone Skáli, we have been constantly looking for ways to improve our products. We had to make difficult decisions, find tricks and deal with the physical constraints of raw materials. But thanks to you and your precious comments, we have already managed to improve our products considerably.
Even though we are experts in our field, it is thanks to you, your ideas and your comments that we are making progress. In short, we really need you!
Our goal:
Our main objective is to offer you healthy cosmetic products that are good for your body and for the environment. We truly believe that the use of natural products is essential to take care of your body, and that is why we use them every day for our whole family. We thank you for trusting us and allowing us to offer you healthy and environmentally friendly products.
The origin of our ingredients is at the heart of the composition of our cosmetics
In the interest of transparency, we want you to know how we carefully select our ingredients at every stage of product creation to bring you the best possible formulas. We never put potentially harmful substances in our formulas, and we invite you to consult our list to learn more.
Provenance
We have chosen our raw materials for their quality and their benefits on the skin. Unfortunately, in Switzerland, we do not have any production of cocoa butter, olive tree fields or shea butter.
We are therefore sometimes obliged to choose raw materials from elsewhere. We make this choice when :
- The price is extremely high in Switzerland
- The article is not produced in Switzerland
- The supplier's production is insufficient to ensure regular delivery.
Dyes
Our dyes are all of natural origin.
Micas, which we mainly use, are frequent and abundant minerals in metamorphic rocks, as well as in magmatic rocks. They are characterized by their laminated aspect, their very fine cleavage and a certain elasticity.
For several years, mica has been in the news regularly, as part of its production is often linked to child labor in India. Mica is sold all over the world to large companies. [...] The ore passes through many intermediaries before arriving in China, where manufacturers can no longer trace its origin. (Source: France TV Info). All the micas we use are of EU origin, traceable and none of them come from China or India. Moreover, our supplier guarantees that our micas do not come from child exploitation.
The scents
At Skáli de Khatone, we use two types of raw materials to obtain the scents.
The first method is the use of essential oil. As explained above, their origin will depend on the availability of the plant in our countries. The essential oil is a liquid concentrate of the aromatic and volatile part of a plant. The uses of the fragrant substances of plants have been known since antiquity. Contrary to popular belief, essential oils are very rich in active substances despite being derived from a plant, and therefore very effective. They often have antiseptic, anti-infectious and even antibiotic effects and also act on neurological activity by being analgesic, calming or sedative.
Because they do not tolerate heat, due to their volatile nature, they are well suited for cold saponification. However, cold saponification simply means that we do not heat our raw materials with a flame, but the reaction between the soda and the oils causes a rise in temperature that generates a slight evaporation of our essential oils. This requires a higher dosage which leads to additional costs and requires an adaptation during the manufacturing process.
The second method is the use of cosmetic fragrances. They are based on an oily vegetable support, like grape seed oil, for example.
They are of synthetic origin and have undergone very strict tests to be used in cosmetics (no tests on animals). They are guaranteed free of CMR substances and meet our needs perfectly.
Organic vs. raw cocoa butter
Here is another choice we had to make. Organic cocoa butter is often refined and comes in the form of a white tablet with very little smell.
One day, we wanted to test a raw cocoa butter from Ghana. The difference was so striking that we gave up even thinking about using organic for this product. The smell is powerful, the appearance is much better and its use is unmatched. So our cocoa butter is naturally rich in antioxidants and its moisturizing and emollient properties make it a natural skin regenerator. It is also fairly traded with local producers.
Labels and packaging
Since September 2022Since September 2022, the packaging of our soaps and shampoos are made of corn particles, 100% biodegradable and 100% natural.
For our shower gels, we use a 100% R-Pet bottle. The packaging is made from recycled PET, which allows us to revalorize the waste produced by industry and households. We have taken care to choose a European channel to avoid having recycled PET in Asia.
The use
Switching from an industrial cosmetic product to a solid shampoo or natural soap takes a little getting used to, but your efforts will be rewarded with better hair and skin quality.
We go to great lengths to make sure our products lather properly, smell great and leave your skin feeling soft, and if you've read all the paragraphs so far, you'll understand why we want the best raw materials.
The price
Khatone's Skáli is a family business. Our production is done by hand, in small quantities, and it is thanks to this that we can assure an excellent quality.
But this "family" production does not allow us to stock tons of raw materials or to reduce costs thanks to the automation of the manufacturing process. We also refuse to use inferior products to increase our margins.
We therefore try to manage our sales prices as well as possible to be able to continue the adventure while guaranteeing you correct prices. Our products are economical and your health is worth paying attention to.
